What nobody tells you before your first solo trip

(but is completely normal)

If you're considering or about to go on your first solo trip, you're probably feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. But first of all: it's already so brave that you made it this far already! Just remember, it’s completely normal to go through different phases of excitement, fear and everything in between.

One moment you're counting down the days, imagining yourself swimming in crystal-clear water, exploring beautiful beaches and experiencing places you’ve always dreamed of visiting, but the next moment.. you're wondering if you've made the right decision (but yes you did!).

One of the biggest things nobody tells you about solo travel is that it's completely normal to feel nervous before you leave. Stepping outside your comfort zone is exciting, but it's also unfamiliar, and whenever we do something unfamiliar, our minds naturally start filling with all the “what ifs”.

The beautiful thing is, those doubts usually disappear much quicker than you expect. You might feel nervous when you arrive. Walking into a place where you don’t know anyone can feel intimidating. Going on your first dinner, meeting other travellers you never met before and the first night away from home can feel scary. Maybe you miss the comfort of your own bed for a moment. Maybe you take a second to think: “wow… I’m really here..” but within hours, you’ll start realizing that everyone arrived with the exact same thoughts.

But then you wake up the next morning, step outside, breathe in the fresh air and suddenly the excitement starts to take over and before you know it, you're fully present, making memories instead of worrying about what could go wrong.

Another thing nobody tells you? You'll surprise yourself. Not because you suddenly become fearless, but because you'll do things you never thought you were capable of.

You'll try something new, you’ll start conversations with people you’ve never met before. You'll say yes to experiences that once felt intimidating.

And slowly.. you’ll realize that confidence doesn't come before the adventure. It grows because of it, and while you might think you’ll remember the biggest highlights most, it’s often the little moments that stay with you forever: the deep conversations with people who started as strangers but quickly feel like lifelong friends, the girls cheering you on every step of the way, the sunsets on remote islands or the moments where you surprise yourself and realize: “I actually did it.” Those are the memories you’ll think back on long after you return home.

And please remember, if you are considering or just booked your first solo trip: you don't arrive feeling fearless. The confidence comes afterwards.

That’s what every first solo trip teaches you: not that you have to do everything alone, but that you’re capable of so much more than you ever imagined, the world so much bigger is than the one you live in and maybe that's exactly why saying yes is the hardest part.. because once you do, you'll probably wonder why you waited so long. You can do this!!
